MUSEUM POLICY OF THE UK

Museum is not only a place for leisure, but also a meaningful place of learning. For a museum, both maintaining sustainable development financially and achieving social goals are important.

The UK government does not simply care about the economic development in museum policy. Concerning about the cultural and historical preservation as well, it takes an active role in promoting museum management and curatorship, and provides funds to the museums based on their achievements and social values. A semi‑autonomous agency is set up to secure the preservation of the heritage for the benefit of future generations and to directly manage the sites. The museums, thus, can be managed and operated suitably.

The presentation of the exhibits is multidimensional and interesting, attracting people to go to museum in order to keep improving the citizen quality. Its museum policy also creates equal opportunity for the disabled, leading to greater community inclusion. The all-rounded concerns of the government reveal the reasons of civilization of the UK.

Hong Kong government may learn from the UK’s museum policy. The non-material elements like culture, historical preservation and social quality significantly affect the extent of civilization of a city. Solely relying on economic development, Hong Kong becomes empty and soulless. There is nothing left for the future generations. Hong Kong can benefit a lot if her museum policy improves, actively promoting in museum management and curatorship; and supporting the museums financially
